Tangle-haired harridan (Health Secretary?) insults junior doctors in TV fiasco
The current health secretary thinks the term junior doctors means doctors in training
Honestly how do these people get jobs in the Government?pic.twitter.com/1rQyPOesvw

Indeed.
Curiously, some people on the social media have focused more on the state of Victoria Atkins’s hair than on anything she was saying. It’s odd because both were dire.

Health Secretary Leaves People In Disbelief After Bizarre Description Of Junior Doctors https://t.co/iGHiEEuti4
— HuffPost UK Politics (@HuffPostUKPol) December 21, 2023
The gist is:
The union leading the strikes, the British Medical Association (BMA), defines junior doctors as “qualified doctors in clinical training”, who have completed a medical degree and foundation training.
They can have up to eight years’ experience working as a doctor in hospital, depending on their speciality, and up to three years in general practice.
So they’re fully-qualified but just building experience. And Atkins poured fuel onto the fire of their protest – they’re striking for better pay, remember – by claiming otherwise:
What a ridiculous thing to say. Junior doctors carry the overwhelming weight of NHS work. Quite amazing to have a government that seems frankly to loathe the people they need to deliver on the promises they have made. We see it in schools, police, civil service. https://t.co/SVrABd8VjV

I didn’t realise this was real. She can’t actually be that ignorant, so it must be deliberate. https://t.co/6rG7atihMy

I had always assumed the person holding the position of British Secretary of State for Health had at least a basic understanding of the subject. Clearly not in the case of @VictoriaAtkins This is just embarrassing, both for her and the country. https://t.co/iEIev0Hodf

Junior Ministers, or ex-MPs in waiting as I prefer to call them https://t.co/oAIEz4k9hY

This is not the first time Victoria Atkins has lowered her own reputation, and that of her government.
One would have expected Rishi Sunak to have found somebody more competent.
Except – of course, There are only incompetents in the Parliamentary Conservative Party.

The only qualification needed to be an MP of the fascist tory party is by displaying slavish adherence to the party’s lies!
Also being a minister means nothing because none of those MPs have any specialist skills and have to rely on expert advisors to tell them the basics. Clearly Victoria Atkins ignored her advisors and instead for once told the truth.
Fascist tories have always held doctors, nurses, teachers, social workers, probation officers, railway staff in contempt. Only bankers and wealth fascist tory millionaires are viewed by the fascist tories as ‘worthy of respect!’
Cockup or conspiracy? I’m pretty sure it’s the latter. The Tories have decades, nay centuries, of this kind of road-kill.
