Chris Philp: the UK benefit system is FAR from generous! (Tory lie of the day)
Tory Policing Minister Chris Philp says there is no excuse for shoplifting in the UK because we all have plenty of money.
He reckons wages are plentiful and we have a “very generous” benefit system. See for yourself:

Let’s examine that statement:
Just a reminder to @CPhilpOfficial how generous UK benefits are compared to other countries according to data from the OECD. In case you didn't realise, we are right at the bottom. https://t.co/ra5R9ZqgFu

Chris Philp Conservative Minister for Policing said that there's no excuse for shoplifting because Britain's benefits are very generous.

Ah – he was talking about the generosity of benefits for MPs like himself!
Right!
In that case, the only people who shouldn’t be shoplifting are people whose rear ends warm the Green Benches of the House of Commons (and the Red Benches of the House of Lords) – people like Philp himself.
Got it.
If poverty drives anyone else to desperation in a supermarket, let’s see what they have to say about it if they end up in court, shall we?

They have crippled the benefits system and sacked many JC staff DWP staff under the guise of saving monies yet crapita atos and maximus are costing alot more then like anything Tory talk robs the peasants but pays them dividends you can’t make it up but hayho they have the peasants fighting amongst themselves while they fleece us
When Chris Philip says that the UK has a very generous benefit system he is not lying. What he’s expressing is a sincerely held belief. Remember Chris Philip is a member of an extreme right wing government;at least in my opinion. I don’t know Philips but I do know some extreme right wingers who believe that not only is social security too high but that the poor can be divided into the deserving and undeserving. Even those who work, according to extremists, and are in receipt of universal credit, who do not look to ‘boot strap’ themselves into a better job, are undeserving.
He might believe it but it is still a lie; the fact is clear and is available to everybody including the Tories. Philp was spouting a lie, whether he knew it was one or not.
