Is policing to be a postcode lottery under Starmer's new plan?

Met Police pressured over politicised policing of pro-Palestine protests

The Metropolitan Police may be over-influenced by the pro-Israel lobby – and this could be affecting officers’ behaviour at pro-Palestine protests, according to civil society groups.

Here‘s The Canary:

The letter comes after the recent dismissal of a prosecution against a pro-Palestine protestor who was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a requirement to remove a face covering at a protest on 14 October 2023.

As the letter noted:

In dismissing the charge, the judge said: “There is no evidence to prove the essential element of the charge.” The judge stated that the arresting officer seemed to have taken the view that he was able to arrest anyone who refused to take off their face mask at the protest.

The law actually only allows for arrest if a person is wearing a face covering for the purpose of concealing their identity, something that the police did not argue in court.

It also highlights a lack of operational independence and a propensity to be influenced by the highly inflammatory and politicised representation of these demonstrations by their detractors in the media, government and pro-Israel lobby.

The full text of the letter can be read here.

Will the cops change course in response?

An official response will certainly be in order.

If, for instance, convicted pederasts are allowed to hide their faces when filmed/photographed coming out of court (as the majority of them only receive community sentences rather than jail terms because of a certain K.Smarmer) then as someone posing NO threat to the public (Nevermind the peace) I demand that that same FREEDOM be granted to me.

One of the things people miss about all the irresponsible media scaremongering about the protests is it doesn’t only persuade Jews to be frightened, it makes the police nervous as well. The old V For Vendetta saying goes, “People shouldn’t be afraid of their Governments; Governments should be afraid of their people,” but I’d much rather it was NEITHER. A scared Government, or even a scared Government employee, is more likely to abuse its power in order to protect itself.
