Israel murders descendants of Hamas leader – for no reason at all
Israeli troops have murdered three sons and several grandchildren of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
They were killed in Gaza City, northern Gaza. Haniyeh himself lives in Doha, Qatar.
With a new ceasefire deal on the table, speculation is rife that the killings were intended to pressurise Haniyeh to agree to the deal. He has given his answer to that:
'The killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh’s sons could have been designed to reassert military pressure on Hamas to agree to a ceasefire.'
Sky's @AliBunkallSKY adds that in Haniyeh's words if that was the tactic, it was "delusional"https://t.co/BADQXhytak

Alternatively, it is also being suggested that Israel is trying to get Haniyeh to refuse the ceasefire and hostage exchange deal. This would appear to be insane, as the above Sky News report makes it clear that Hamas is inclined against a deal at this time.
Assassinating Ismail Haniyehs sons and (tiny) grandkids during the Eid – so far, w no military justification being offered – seems like Netanyahu's brutal, calculated, highly personal attempt to get Hamas to blow up the hostage exchange and truce that seems to be within reach.

We are left with the possibility that the murders were done for nothing more than spite – to “bring the war home” to Haniyeh, as Marc Owen Jones suggests below. It does nothing to bring the conflict to an end:
And, it does not bring the hostages back home…
And, it does not solve the conflict…— Basque Country (@BasqVasco) April 10, 2024
