Yvette Cooper ain’t no Windrush hero, according to Another Angry Voice – but apparently she’s trying to kid her electorate that she is.
Here’s a taste of the article:
It’s beyond infuriating to see Yvette Cooper present herself as some kind of Windrush hero, when she was behind Labour’s decision to enable Theresa May’s unlawfully racist Hostile Environment in 2014.
Back in 2014, when Theresa May’s unlawfully racist Hostile Environment came before parliament, Yvette Cooper was also serving as Labour’s shadow Home Secretary, meaning her fingerprints were all over Labour’s despicable decision to whip their MPs into abstaining, and allowing this horrifying legislation to glide through parliament virtually unopposed.

Even if Labour had lost an attempt to block Theresa May’s racist scheming, they would have made it clear that the legislation was deeply controversial rather than rubber-stamping it through their inaction, and they would have given themselves the moral high ground to say that they always opposed it once the courts ruled it unlawful.
It’s beyond infuriating to see Yvette Cooper’s self-congratulation over Labour’s Windrush policies, given that she was one of the key players in allowing it to happen in the first place.
She’s been talking about how she’s going to “turn the page” on the Windrush scandal and speed up the compensation process, despite knowing that her inaction back in 2014 helped enable the Tories’ systematically racist mistreatment in the first place.
It is infuriating. Read the rest of the article here.
Fortunately there are five other candidates to choose from in the new Pontefract, Castleford & Knottingley constituency where Cooper is standing. They are:
- Laura Weldon (Conservative Party)
- Olli Watkins (Green Party)
- Jamie Needle (Liberal Democrats)
- Trevor Lake (Social Democratic Party)
- John Thomas (Reform UK)
I’ve said this elsewhere and will repeat it here: if you are a voter in Pontefract, Castleford & Knottingley, This Site urges you to examine carefully each candidate’s election material, coupled with their parties’ manifestos (if they’re in a party and it has one), then work out which individual candidate’s plans coincide most closely with what you, personally, need.
Then vote for that candidate on July 4 (or by postal vote, if you have one, before that date).
Do not pay attention to the party mouthpieces urging you to vote tactically to “keep ——* out”. Tactical voting simply doesn’t work; we have four consecutive Tory election wins in our recent past to demonstrate that.
And it means you would be voting against your own best interests. Don’t do that.
Vote for what you need. How can you expect politicians to make things better if you don’t tell them how?
*Whichever party they think is the greatest threat to their own.
