Does this ‘Putin’ gaffe mean it’s time for Joe Biden to give up? He clearly doesn’t seem to understand what he’s saying any more.

Mr Biden, at the Nato summit, was supposed to be introducing Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, and ended up name-checking Ukraine’s enemy, Russian President Vladimir Putin, instead.

The reality of his comment isn’t as bad as some have made it seem, as Maximilien Robespierre makes it clear:

But it is bad. And it comes amid other concerns about his ability to do his job.

That makes it hard to envision Biden retaining the US Presidency in the election later this year – and, as Martin Odoni makes clear in his Critique Archives article, that would open the door for the return of Donald Trump to the Presidency, and

given the horrific anti-democratic plans Trump and his cronies have in store should he be restored to the Presidency at the end of the year, even Biden has to be seen as (very slightly) better for all concerned… At least he has no apparent plans to dismantle the democratic structures that just barely keep the USA from being a full-blown nightmare republic.

The article discusses Biden’s decline – but also suggests that the Democratic Party in the United States has undertaken a dishonest campaign to deny that this decline is even happening.

There has clearly been a steadfast and thoroughly dishonest campaign by the party simply to deny that Biden’s decline is happening, and to conceal just how bad his condition has become, by keeping him far away from the press and heavily-rigging his public speeches. The decline is quite impossible to conceal though, and it says something about the contempt in which the Democratic National Committee holds the general public, both in the USA and beyond, that they seem to think they are fooling everyone. Reports of them bullying the media and members of their own party who ask questions or express reservations about Biden’s health are rife, suggesting not only denial but aggressive deceitfulness. They appear willing to risk another Trump Administration rather than allow anyone who is not part of the ‘Clintonite’ clique be the Democratic candidate.

They are endangering their chances of keeping the White House at the end of the year by persisting with Biden. Bullying DNC representatives into line is also damaging their reputations and endangering their chances of retaining their seats in Congress and the Senate.

It suggests that Biden should stand down, possibly to be replaced by Kamala Harris:

Harris is a long way from a real progressive, or even from being inspiring, but she at least has all her faculties, for what they are worth.

This is an issue that goes beyond the States, to the future well-being of everybody on the planet.

What will it take to make the Democratic Party take it seriously?

Thanks for the share. As you say, this is most concerning for people beyond the USA.
