What happened to being 'tough on the CAUSES of crime'?

After the magic money tree do we now have magic prison places?

Last Updated: August 7, 2024By Tags: , , , , , , , ,

The new Labour government has mysteriously found 567 prison cells for people taking part in riots after the Southport stabbings, so after the magic money tree do we now have magic prison places?

Has Keir Starmer signed a deal with Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, to conjure up Rooms (well, cells) of Requirement wherever they’re needed?

According to the BBC,

The government earlier said it would make more than 500 new prison places available to ensure those taking part in the violence could be jailed.

Justice Minister Heidi Alexander said 567 additional prison places would soon be available, including extra cells at HMP Stocken, Rutland, and places at Cookham Wood Young Offender Institution in Kent for adult prisoners.

But it isn’t a month since This Site and others were publishing articles saying the prison system was running out of places and that new Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood was planning to bring in Tory plans to release prisoners after serving only two-fifths of their sentences, in order to free up spaces.

Is that what is happening now?

If it is, This Writer is not happy about the idea that the only way we can bring the rioters to justice is by releasing other criminals early.
