Jeremy Corbyn announces his next steps

Jeremy Corbyn announces his next steps in the following message to his followers.

After winning Islington North as an independent MP in July’s general election, Mr Corbyn has taken time to consider his next moves.

He says:

We have the chance to build something new, to redefine how we organise and support our communities. And we’ll only do that together.

In the immediate term, locally, we’re focusing on two key initiatives:

1. Our first leaflet: To express my appreciation to the broader community, I have a post-election leaflet which is intended to be delivered to all residents. Volunteers have already begun delivering the leaflet across the constituency.

2. Islington North’s First People’s Forum: This will be a space for Islington North to build community power from the ground up. The forum will serve as a platform for discussions, ideas and actions that will strengthen our local communities. We are building strength from below to challenge those at the top – this approach can be adapted and rolled out in other constituencies to build power ahead of the next election – and beyond – as I laid out in this article shortly after my re-election.

At this forum, I will briefly report on Parliament and my activities. The rest of the forum will focus on a particular issue, and agree on campaigning priorities going forward. We may not have all the answers yet, but we will find them together through dialogue, trusting in each other and the power of organised communities coming together.

We are running consultation sessions for local people to inform how Islington North’s People’s Forum develops, but if you aren’t local I’d still like to hear your ideas on what you think would make a good People’s Forum. Share your views by filling out the form below.

I’ve got ideas!

This is an exciting time. Our work is just the beginning of this new chapter.

Thank you again for everything. Let’s keep moving forward, together.

Note that Mr Corbyn is urging other MPs to adapt and roll out his “People’s Forum” idea in their own constituencies.

Who’ll take up the proposal, I wonder?

He will have to start thinking about whether he wants to fight the next election.

It would be entirely understandable if he decided not to.

We should have more independent and other MPs that represent the interests of their constituencies not the highest borders (lobbyists). of course lobbying will never disappear but I’d an MP takes always teir constituency side, the ones that lobby for big business will have to include the constituency in their plans. Very simple and excluding nothing/nobody from the picture here.
