He would, wouldn’t he? This cladding boss denies involvement in the Grenfell disaster

He would, wouldn’t he? This cladding boss denies involvement in the Grenfell disaster – and is anyone surprised?

Here‘s the BBC:

A cladding company boss heavily criticised by the Grenfell Tower inquiry has denied playing a part in the disaster.

Claude Wehrle, the former head of the technical sales support team at manufacturer Arconic, told BBC News the deaths of 72 people was “a tragedy”.

He said he was “not the one making decisions” about the sales of flammable Reynobond PE cladding.

The inquiry’s final report said Mr Wehrle resorted to “deliberate dishonesty” to sell the product, including to firms in the UK.

I’m no expert, but it seems to me that if you’re the boss of a company that sells a product that could be harmful to human life if applied in a particular way, then it’s your responsibility to ensure that it isn’t applied in that way.

The BBC article suggests that Mr Wehrle knew his cladding was dangerous in this way but dishonestly said otherwise in order to sell it.

He says there were other people in Arconic who were better-placed than him to make decisions on how it was to be sold.

There’s an inconsistency there – it seems to me.

But then, if you were accused on contributing to a situation that led to 72 deaths, wouldn’t you deny responsibility?
