Donald Trump – assassination attempts or conspiracy theories?

What’s going on with Donald Trump – assassination attempts or conspiracy theories?

Threats to the safety of politicians seem to be all the rage at the moment, with Labour Party representatives in the UK alleging intimidation during the run-up to July’s general election and now a second apparent attempt on former US President – and current Presidential candidate – Donald Trump’s life.

But in the latest incident, no shots were fired at Trump himself. Apparently the barrel of a gun was spotted sticking through shrubbery on the perimeter of the course at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where the candidate was enjoying a game.

Secret Service agents, who were checking the course one hole ahead of the former President, opened fire. Their shots were heard by Trump and his party, and bodyguards covered him to ensure his safety.

A man broke cover, dropping the weapon along with two knapsacks, a scope for aiming a weapon and a GoPro camera, according to County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.

A witness then saw the man fleeing from the shrubbery to a black Nissan car, which drove off – but not before they took an image of the vehicle which they provided to law enforcers.

The vehicle was tracked and stopped while driving northbound on the I-95 highway, around 38 miles from the golf course.

Inside, we’re told, was a man named Ryan Wesley Routh. BBC checks for social media profiles under that name suggest that he called for foreign fighters to go to Ukraine to battle against Russian forces; there are also pro-Palestinian, pro-Taiwan and anti-China messages on his profile, including allegations about Chinese “biological warfare” and references to the Covid-19 virus as an “attack”. It seems he also has a criminal record, but not for crimes of violence.

He’ll apparently appear in court later today (Monday, September 16).

Conspiracy theorists are already suggesting the event was a set-up to raise concerns about political violence. They said much the same about July 13’s apparent attempt on Trump’s life, when it seemed a bullet hit him in the ear before Secret Service agents piled on to protect him. The claim is that this is not what happened and Trump himself only made it seem that he had been hit. This Writer maintains health scepticism about that.

It seems to me that politicians who know their policies are going to be unpopular may be waging a pre-emptive propaganda war against their detractors.

By making themselves look like victims of criminal violence, they may hope to generate sympathy among the general public.

It doesn’t really matter if political violence is actually being planned or attempted against them, because the effect is the same.

It occurs to me that these people would not have to fear such attacks (or create the impression that they do) if their policies weren’t considered to be dangerous to the public good in the first place.

Violence – or the threat of it – is never an appropriate response, but many people are not rational and will do whatever they decide, no matter how inappropriate. Politicians across the world know this.

Perhaps the answer is to modify their own behaviour and plans, so the lunatics can’t claim a reason for their crimes – or so they don’t have to go to elaborate lengths to claim such crimes are being attempted against them?

Knowing what is true and what is false can be very difficult indeed. It is important to tread carefully.

I was very lucky in that I accidentally found an interview once where CIA asset Frank Sturgis talked to Bill O’ Reilly. For me, that was the final piece that proved that the CIA really did plan to assassinate President Nixon.

Sturgis: “He was lucky he wasn’t killed. He was lucky he didn’t get assassinated like President Kennedy got assassinated”

(The interview can be seen on the internet).

As ever, if it looks too neat and scripted, it was probably arranged.
Within 2 hours or less, they knew the Accused name and his Pro-Palestinian/Ukranian affiliations.
Trump’s Poll ratings are sliding far too near Election time, so the timing is also suspect, he has always resorted to distraction in times of trouble.
