Why can’t our chess-champion Chancellor see three moves ahead

Wow – Rachel Reeves is a strategist. Who knew? So, why can’t our chess-champion Chancellor see three moves ahead?

That was the question put to her this morning (September 23, 2024) by Nick Robinson on the BBC’s Today programme.

Reeves is among the Labour MPs who have received money from donors that has been used to pay for clothing – £7,500 from Juliet Rosenfeld between January 2023 and May this year.

Robinson told Reeves many people know “you’re a champion chess player”. So why can’t she see three moves ahead?

It turned out she couldn’t even see that question coming.

Instead of answering it, she resorted to a tired distraction tactic,

She said her focus was on delivering a Budget (next month) that protects “working families’ incomes, fixing problems in our health service,” and starts to rebuild the “foundations of the economy”.

That is not an answer to the question. And if Reeves won’t answer for herself, others will come up with an answer for her.

They’ll say greed has blinded her to everything else.
