UK tenants are facing an unchecked eviction crisis

UK tenants are facing an unchecked eviction crisis, according to Charlotte Hughes of The Poor Side of Life.

This is what she says:

Recent figures… tell a grim tale showing a staggering rise in evictions looming over privately rented tenants on low incomes. This is  exposing an already vulnerable populace to the very real risk of homelessness.

Between July and September this year, 8,425 households in England were given Section 21 notices which marked an eight-year high.

In this same time span, 2,830 households found themselves evicted by bailiffs which is a disturbing 23% increase from the previous year.

Labour’s commitment to abolishing Section 21 evictions by next summer offers a dim light at the end of a very dark tunnel.

Yet, for the 110,000 households already evicted under these controversial grounds since 2019, when PM Theresa May first vowed to outlaw it, this promise feels hollow in the face of  urgent immediate need.
