Israel is killing civilians in neighbouring countries at will, isn’t it?

At least 11 people have been killed, and dozens more injured in an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in central Beirut – Israel is killing civilians in neighbouring countries at will, isn’t it?

Oh, the Israeli army said today (Saturday, November 23, 2024) that over the past day it had conducted “intelligence-based strikes” on Hezbollah targets in Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut’s southern suburbs, and prior to the strikes it issued advance warnings to civilians in the area.

But this was a strike on central Beirut where – one presumes – no advance warnings were issued at all.

And in any case, these were ordinary people, just getting on with their business. Israel doesn’t have any right to tell them to get out of their homes – or to do anything else.

ITV News says

Israeli bombardment has killed more than 3,500 people in Lebanon and wounded more than 15,000, according to the Lebanese health ministry.

The vast majority of these people won’t have had anything to do with Hezbollah; they are just random victims of naked aggression by an out-of-control terrorist state.

And no, Keir Starmer; just because it has a functioning democracy, that doesn’t mean it isn’t run by terrorists; it just means they have a mandate from a proportion of their population. I wonder what those people are being told about what’s going on there.

Let’s remember that the International Criminal Court has issued a warrant for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s arrest in relation to possible war crimes – alongside a warrant to arrest the military leader of Hamas; in the eyes of international law they may be all terrorists together.

Sadly, Israel will remain impervious to change while Netanyahu’s brutal regime is supported by the United States and its president.

But Joe Biden will be gone by the end of January and the incoming president, questionable though he is in many ways, considers war to be bad for business. What will happen then?
