The latest question from 38 Degrees is: Should the King be profiting from the NHS and RNLI?
Here’s their email:
King Charles is making millions of pounds from deals like renting his land to the NHS to store ambulances in and from the RNLI so they can use slipways on his land. To make it worse, the Royals don’t pay corporation or capital gains tax on this money thanks to an arrangement with the Treasury.
130,000 people have already signed the petition calling on the Royals to stop profiting from public services and charities which is amazing! But if we want them to listen we need to do more and ramp up the pressure.

Over the coming weeks, King Charles and his staff will be thinking about his Christmas Day speech, and what kind of message to include. It’s our chance to get him thinking about our message: do right by our public services – and pay proper taxes on your estate! Maybe we could even get him to announce a change in his speech.
And we’ve got a plan to get our views on his radar. How? By sending thousands of Christmas cards to the palace – each with a personal message from one of us, telling him what we expect of our monarch. All you need to do is pick what design you want to print your message on from the two below – and write a few words for the King. We’ll sort getting them printed and sent to the palace.
We’re aiming to send thousands of Christmas cards to King Charles next week! If you have two minutes to get involved, click on your favourite design below – and then you’ll be taken to a page where you can write a quick note to the King. If the designs aren’t loading properly in your inbox, instead click on the button that says “Choose your card” to see them on the sign up page:

Don’t know what to write? Here are some ideas to help you get started:
- You could include a message explaining why you think it’s important that the Royal Family voluntarily pays corporation and capital gains tax in the same way you voluntarily pay income tax.
- Tell the King how important public services and charities are to you. You could talk about a hospital that saved your life, or an encounter with the RNLI!
- Keep it short and polite – it has to fit on the back of a postcard so long messages won’t be sent. And we won’t send any postcards which are inappropriate, off-topic or use abusive language.
- So, can you send a personal postcard to the King today? Just click on your favourite design below and, when prompted, write your personal message. The 38 Degrees team will take it from there – we’ll make sure your message is matched to your preferred design and makes it to Buckingham Palace.
