Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis: is he using the Manchester synagogue attack to push extreme views?

Media wheel out the maniacs to rant about the Manchester synagogue killings

I was going to write about the way the Manchester synagogue killings gave the media an opportunity to platform the usual foam-at-the-mouth zealots to pump propaganda at us – but Martin Odoni at The Critique Archives beat me to it.

I will say that I was inspired to publish something by a post on the social media suggesting that Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis may not be the best person to lament the murder of two people after cheerleading vehemently for the mass slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza.

Here‘s Martin to amplify on that with his opinions on the subject:

The inevitable roll-call of Zionist cynics airing little-questioned hate-speech by the likes of the BBC had me quietly seething, as they were allowed to stoke more paranoia live on air… to spew false claims blurring the distinction between antisemitism and support for Palestine, with only modest push-back from interviewers.

It was entirely predictable that advantage would be taken by these frauds of course. Leading Zionists are routinely irresponsible, and only possess a sense of right-and-wrong insofar as it allows them to manipulate the consciences of others. They will do absolutely anything, no matter how reprehensible, if they believed it would advance the interests of Israel. It was inevitable that they would exploit yesterday to fear-monger, and in the days and weeks ahead, they will doubtless use the attack as a pretext for pressuring a fresh clampdown on pro-Palestine activism.

The worst of them, though, is the current UK Chief Rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis. I expressed my disgust with this malevolent cleric last year. Mirvis, who is more Irish than British, more Israeli than Irish, and more South African than Israeli, is effectively Israel’s secondary Ambassador to the UK. It makes his activities grossly inappropriate to his office.

His indifference to Palestinian suffering is chillingly consistent, and should be legendary, while his sinister and McCarthyite public attacks on Jeremy Corbyn in 2019 amounted to religious interference in the political process, and really should have made his position as Chief Rabbi in the UK untenable.

On the matter of the Heaton Park attack, Mirvis has been quick to summarise it as “the tragic result of Jew-hatred.” We do not know this as yet, and it is profoundly irresponsible scaremongering. On balance, it seems far likelier that the attacker, ‘Jihadi al-Shamie,’ a British man of Syrian descent, did what he did as a horribly misguided attempt to oppose Israel’s aggression across the Middle East. Mirvis has gone as far as to claim that the attack raises the question of banning all pro-Palestine protests.

And then the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, called for pro-Palestine protesters to call off their activities.

See how this works?
