Latest opinions show public opposes Syria airstrikes. Michael Fallon – take note
The latest test of public opinion has shown a majority against bombing Syria – again.
Perhaps Michael Fallon is not a Guardian reader, but that hardly seems a useful position from which to justify his claim to RAF personnel that they have the “backing” of “the people of Britain”.
This Writer awaits the usual chorus of claims that the Guardian article isn’t a proper survey because it isn’t balanced and weighted in the same way as polls conducted by the professional survey companies.
But then, don’t those ‘professional’ surveys always reflect the opinions of their funders? And don’t those who disagree with this claim always agree with what such surveys are saying?
We asked our readers if they were happy with their local MP’s vote on airstrikes in Syria, after an overwhelming majority of British MPs voted in favour of action after a marathon debate on Wednesday.
Of the 1,200 responses we received, a majority were against bombing. Many were unhappy, and in some cases angry with their MPs for backing military action, though the tone of the responses was largely civil and contrustive. Some Labour MPs have complained of abusive and bullying messages via email and social media as a consequence of the Syria vote.
Our readers were, in the main, satisfied with their MPs if they voted against military action, and thanked them for listening to their reservations.

Funny how the Cameron sycophant Fallon has this incredible ability to read the “publics” collective mind and come out with such a statement when the reality is something quite the opposite. If only Dr Goebells knew how his invention of propaganda would become the de facto means of mind control some 80 years later he would be impressed.
It wouldn’t matter how many legitimate and unbiased polls were conducted, the results would always reflect that the majority of British people did not want the bombing of Syria. Blair told Andrew Neil back in 2003 in a broadcast interview that government could not have a referendum every time Parliament had to make a decision – he didn’t mention that the decision was about taking Britain into an illegal war. At that time Blair new a referendum would return a clear and conclusive response denouncing his wishes, but what did he care about the people’s wishes. The same is true of the recent call for bombing of Syria, it would seem that many Labour MP’s have learned nothing from their defeats in the last two elections. Apparently, certain Labour Party politicians think the views of their members are not worthy of consideration, something many of us realised back in 2003, yet they wonder why they represent a shadow government. It is difficult to comprehend their arrogance or stupidity whichever is applicable. They are amazingly “dense”, to say the least. They have instead, succeeded in alienating still more Labour Party members who will be calling for Corbyn to deselect in 2016 if not before. In many ways JC has made his task easier in reforming the Labour Party by offering a free vote, in that pro Corbyns will be behind him, but now, as a consequence of their actions, so too will a lot of non Corbynites. I believe this is something you hinted strongly at in an earlier post, is it not?
I have yet to meet anyone who is in favour of this latest war.
