All the wheels have fallen off the Tory election wagon – it is now a sledge
Stumbling: Fallon meets his nemesis – the words of Boris Johnson – on Channel 4 News.
The long fall of Michael Fallon continues. Today (May 28) he was caught lying about fellow Tory Boris Johnson’s words about the effect of the Iraq War on terrorist attacks in the UK.
For clarity: After the ‘7/7’ attack on London in 2005, Mr Johnson stated: “The Iraq War did not create the problem of fundamentalists, though the war has sharpened the resentments felt by people in this country, and given them a new pretext.”
Mr Fallon was asked about this comment by Krishnan Guru-Murthy on Channel 4 News, and ended up humiliated after attacking them – because he did not know they belonged to his cabinet colleague:
Astonishingly, Mr Fallon appeared on Robert Peston’s ITV show this morning (May 28) – and compounded his error.
This time, he tried to twist Mr Johnson’s words, inserting an extra word in a bid to change the meaning of the sentence. In other words, he tried to lie about it.

He lied when he claimed Mr Johnson didn’t say those words.
He lied by reading out a different quotation.
And he lied by claiming Boris Johnson gave people a “fabricated” pretext. You can see for yourself (above) that Mr Johnson did not use that word.
When a politician lies flagrantly on a national television programme, during an election campaign, you know his party is not worth your vote.
The worst part of this is, Boris Johnson was not the only Conservative to condemn the Iraq War in the way that Michael Fallon has been denying – even though many of them are probably backtracking for all they are worth now:

Boris was actually correct, the war did not create fundamentalists, they were well entrenched well before that occurrence.
We’re not arguing with Boris in this instance.
