It is no surprises that Dominic Raab belonged to a Facebook group advocating the sale of all council houses, private healthcare and the return of the workhouse.

He is a member of the Free Enterprise Group of Tory MPs who argue that British workers are “among the worst idlers in the world”, that the UK “rewards laziness” and “too many people in Britain prefer a lie-in to hard work”.

And he’d know. At the time he published his far-right manifesto Britannia Unchained, alongside Priti Patel, Liz Truss, Chris Skidmore, and Kwasi Kwarteng, he was among the laziest MPs in Parliament.

This Site reported that Dominic Raab was the laziest of the lot, with Parliamentary attendance of just 79.1 per cent prior to 2012.

And what illustrious company! Priti Patel had to resign as International Development secretary after it was revealed that she was trying to carry out her own foreign policy, independent of the Tory government of which she was supposed to be a part. Liz Truss appears on the so-called “sex spreadsheet” of Tory MPs.

Chris Skidmore was in a college punk band that sang lewd and lurid lyrics, including one about killing the Queen Mother in a very undignified way, weeks after her death. You can form your own opinion about Kwasi Kwarteng.

Now it seems he has fallen foul of modern journalism’s latest gimmick – looking up a politician’s internet history and finding embarrassment. Consider the experience of Gavin Barwell and Lord Ashcroft earlier this week.

And rightly so. The public deserves to know about ministers’ personal political leanings – especially if they contradict their publicly-stated views.

And, with Mr Raab’s far-right views already well-publicised in his own writings, it will be hard for him to shake off this claim.

The Conservatives’ new housing minister, Dominic Raab, belonged to a private Facebook group that argues for council housing to be sold off at market value, healthcare to be privatised, and the return of workhouses for the poor.

Raab was, until Thursday morning, one of 14 members of a closed group called the “British Ultra Liberal Youth — The Ultras”, which was set up about seven years ago. He withdrew from the group after being approached for comment.

Raab told BuzzFeed News: “I wasn’t aware of this group, let alone that I had inadvertently and mistakenly been linked on Facebook. I have corrected it, and needless to say I do not support its aims.”
