Theresa May might not last as PM until the end of the week – and it’s Thursday
Jacob Rees-Mogg has supported his harsh words in Parliament with hard action – he asked why he should not write to the chair of the Conservative backbench 1922 committee indicating no confidence in Theresa May and, having clearly received no good answer, he has done so.
And he published the letter, so we can all see his reasons.
He wrote: “The draft withdrawal agreement presented to parliament today has turned out to be worse than anticipated and fails to meet the promises given to the nation by the prime minister, either on her own account or on behalf of us all in the Conservative party manifesto.
“It is of considerable importance that politicians stick to their commitments or do not make such commitments in the first place. Regrettably, this is not the situation, therefore, in accordance with the relevant rules and procedures of the Conservative party and the 1922 committee this is a formal letter of no confidence in the leader of the party, the Rt. Hon. Theresa May.”
After Rees-Mogg, it seems likely 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady will receive a deluge.
Already Conservative MP Henry Smith has submitted his letter to Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 Committee, requesting a vote of no confidence in Mrs May.
As I write this, commentators on the BBC News channel are saying the number of “no confidence” letters will top the 48 needed to trigger a vote.
Mrs May might not last as Prime Minister until the end of the week – and it’s Thursday.

Who will replace her.
The only reason that Gove didn’t make the final 2 in the last Tory leadership election is that some of May’s supporters ‘lent’ their votes to Andrea Leadsom in order to squeeze out Gove who represented a much greater threat to May than Leadsom did.
I’m loving this moment. Trump reeling from the mid-term drubbing in the USA (with even more blows to come as all votes aren’t counted yet) and Brexit falling apart along with the Tory Party. I can’t wait for a General Election.
In the words(roughly) of William Wordsworth on the French Revolution, “Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive… but to be young was very heaven!”
I am an old aged pensioner to be honest, but you get the gist.
Old Etonian “posh boy” Jacob Rees-Mogg is certainly not an alternative to Mrs May.
She’s already seen off one Motion of No Confidence, and she survived it with much gusto and table-thumping because it was stage-managed by the party whips, by order of the Tory upper echelons. I have some doubt she’ll have quite the same level of support this time, but then again, she’s survived every other scandal to break at her feet so far…
Donald Tusk offered a lifeline in his speech this afternoon.
“The EU is prepared for a final deal with the United Kingdom in November, We are also prepared for a no-deal scenario but of course we are best prepared for a no-Brexit scenario.“
It looks like a ‘peoples vote’ is the only sensible way forward.
With any luck she won’ last to the end of the day.
So who are we are going to be lumbered with next as PM? Rees Mogg? Boris? Cameron again? OMG
This has to be the worst show in town: any town: anywhere: ever! You couldn’t make it up: but they did: and I’ve seen it all! Incredulous! Just the encore now: no-one does ‘back-stab’ like tory: bring it on! Government of ‘national unity’? No thank you! Just get on with the back-stabbing: I’ve seen enough!
I was beginning to wonder if this bid to get rid of TM was going to turn out to be just another limp gesture because JRM was suffering from PME.
