New Tory chairman ‘owned’ over slavery howler
James Cleverly: Not the sharpest tool in the Tory box.
Is there anyone in the Conservative cabinet who hasn’t made themselves look foolish recently?
James Cleverly has – many times, as long-term readers of This Site will know.
But it is from Skwawkbox that we derive this example of imbecilic stupidity:

James Cleverly put out a tweet claiming that William Wilberforce, the MP responsible for the 1833 ‘Slavery Abolition Act’ was ‘a Tory MP from Yorkshire’ and an example of a Conservative having a positive impact on society:
In fact, Wilberforce was an independent MP who died just three days after hearing that the Act had been passed – and the Conservative party was only formed a year later. The ‘Tories’, the precursor to the Conservative party, did exist – but Wilberforce was not a member and Tories largely opposed the bill.
As you can see, the general public took umbrage, and responded in characteristic fashion.

And now the Tories have introduced a new type of slavery in the form of Universal Credit.
I thought that he would have realised that “Afro-Caribbean” is not a welcomed descriptor; it’s African Caribbean, as I understand it; some M.P. was taken to task regarding this, on a Question Time, some years since. In addition, merely citing those from the Caribbean, he is ignoring the contribution of those who came here, directly from Africa.
To claim that someone who professed to be “no Party Man” was a Tory, is a shameful error.
Not Very Cleverly at all. Like most of them.
I have taken to calling him Notso on the grounds that he does this all the time. He never fact checks his output. If he can’t read the history books he can watch the movie and fake it but he can’t even do that. Given the density of Johnson’s cabinet I doubt there will be anything factual or true in their GE output
I might steal “Notso” and use it if that’s okay.
