Life imitates satire – in pictures – in “no deal” Brexit debate

A few days ago, cartoonist Ben Jennings produced this illustration for The Guardian:

It was intended as a satire on Dictator Johnson’s vow to kick rebel Tory MPs off the government benches if they vote against him in the bill to block “no deal” Brexit.

Now consider this image of Jacob Rees-Mogg, taken during the debate on whether there should be a debate on that bill (I know; it’s convoluted. But that’s how Parliament works these days):

As I write this, the Graun is reporting that 16 Tory MPs are expected to support the motion – and will be stripped of the whip this evening.

Life imitating satire?

It’s an amusing photo but also shows what liberties they get away with lounging and slouching around like that whilst at work! I mean consider this, my ex’s 17 yr old son (a builder’s apprentice) was called into the office and given an almighty rollicking by the boss who had seen him yawning first thing in the morning. And I learned very quickly in my working life to always look busy no matter what, even if you actually had nothing to do for a while, pick up a brush or clean your tools, whatever, just in case the boss walks in. My dad on the other hand (WW2 generation, 9 years in the army) always said “never stand up when you can sit down, and never sit down when you can lie down” !
