Here are 10 reminders of how the Tories are freezing and starving people. Will you be next?
The Conservative victory in December’s general election has given Boris Johnson free reign to torture the UK’s poorest people.
Amazingly, there are some in the country who either haven’t noticed, or refuse to accept the reality of the harm that is being done.
So this article by Red Revolution is timely. It states:
The Court of Appeal found that the Tory government discriminated against disabled people through the unfair and cruel practices of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The finding confirmed in law what millions have known since 2010, that the Tory government is engaging in nothing less than what can be described as a process of social cleansing through the DWP.
Just last year the United Nations condemned the Tory government, a report comparing British welfare policies to the creation of workhouses. Philip Alston, the UN rapporteur on extreme poverty, accused the Tories of the “systematic immiseration of a significant part of the British population”.
Such is the level of misery inflicted on the British public that many have suggested that the poor and vulnerable are headed back to Victorian levels of inequality and poverty.
Given that people are literally freezing and starving to death, it’s not hard to see the point.
Bear in mind the fact that the UK, with a $2.83 trillion GDP, is the fifth-largest economy in the world.
The piece goes on to tell the stories of 10 infamous cases, including some that have been covered on This Site: Errol Graham, Mark Wood, Andrew Clarke, David Clapson, Mark Smith, Chris Gold, Danielle White, Elaine Morrall, ‘Alice’ and Stephen Smith.

Unfortunately the Tory propaganda machine was extremely effective in ‘grooming’ the public into the notion that welfare claimants were sub-human ‘scroungers.’ We know that this seems to have resulted in increased attacks on the disabled and vulnerable.
This process of vilification of the ill and vulnerable actually started under the ghastly Blair(aka ‘Tory Lite’) and the Tories stepped on the accelerator from 2010 because they needed to:
a) pacify the in-work poor and breaking up any feeling of solidarity with the out -of-work and ill poor.
b) Disguise the fact that the Tories themselves are the beneficiaries of an era of low wages and unaffordable housing while the wealth shifts to the owners of capital.
c) Hide the fact that the financial industry was culpable for gutting the real economy.
d) Find a scapegoat by lying about the impact of the deficit (the financial crisis was all about private debt not the deficit)..
I regard the Tories as mendacious, vile, vacuous virulent purveyors of utter falsehoods.
However, much of the public has now imbibe this as truth. The only silver lining is that only 28% of the total electorate voted for these card sharps. The main problem is that many of the 22% of our population in relative poverty probably didn’t vote.
I share the frustration at seeing the damage done , and then seeing the same bunch of con men returned to power. Perhaps we should stop seeing the task as trying to get the mean-spirited Tory voters to change their minds, but to try to engage with the non-voters who may well be the greatest victims of this process of immiseration.
Not easy , as ill health and depression and bitter experience of “moderate” Labour governments have switched off millions.
But would it really be any more difficult than standing on doorsteps trying to convince people who swallow the Daily Mail poison every day? (Been there, done it)
Good post Mr Cohen.
Looks like its all going to plan, I watched this last week and it put a few things into perspective for me.

The Tories said they “Didn’t recognise” the UK report and that it was “politically motivated”. So no matter what they do, they will deny the truth, the state media will echo their opinions and people will belive it – until it hits them personally in the pocket.
