Tory hypocrisy exposed again as Brandon Lewis won’t explain why the UK has worst Covid-19 death rate in the world

Caught out: Brandon Lewis was happy to trumpet the UK having the highest vaccination rate in the world but could only say it was “too early” to compare Covid-19 death rates.

Tory minister Brandon Lewis was left struggling to find words after his government’s hypocrisy was exposed (again) on live television.

Interviewed on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Lewis was challenged to explain why the UK has the worst Covid-19-related death rate in the world. He said it was “too early” to make comparisons.

But, Piers Morgan pointed out, this government is happy to compare itself with the rest of the world when it suits – such as its claim that the UK is leading the world in vaccinating the population.

Lewis had nowhere to go. He and his government were exposed; their attempt to hoodwink us marked out – for all the world to see:

And the world did see:

For clarity and completeness, you’ve seen Lewis failing to explain why the UK has the worst Covid-related death rate, so here’s the Conservative boast about vaccination:

It is typical Tory policy and, yes, it is an attempt to mislead the public.

There is no point in crowing about a large number of injections if the UK still has more people dying of Covid-19 than any other nation in the world.

Fascist lying tories aren’t vaccinating the UK population. They are merely giving one injection instead of the required two doses which must be administered four weeks after first one otherwise vaccination becomes worthless! So we peasants are being lied to as usual by the fascist tories!

Well done skinflint callous fascist tories for continuing to oversee state sanctioned mass murder of thousands and thousands non-humans!

Little england has the highest death rate but never mind fascist tories claim their policies are world beating! ‘World beating meaning little england is doing fine – it’s just that so many women and men are still dying as a direct result of fascist tory state sanctioned murder!

It is frankly outrageous that Lewis is boasting and lying while simultaneously Simon Stevens is bemoaning pressures on NHS hospitals and staff. He and former ministers including Jeremy Hunt (now busily reinventing himself as a friend of the health service) have been responsible for a whole series of so-called efficiency measures devised by the McKinsey corporation. These led to a 100,000 staff shortage and the closure of 17,000 beds before the pandemic. On their watch the system has been fragmented, private contractors (Including from the USA) moved in en masse, junior doctors were vilified when they rightly took action over unsafe working practices, and the pay of all staff was deliberately suppressed, leading to the nurses’ current demand for a fifteen per cent rise. Even in the midst of the crisis Stevens has ploughed on with the plans to replace a national service with forty two regional integrated care systems. These are based on the system favoured by the US health insurance giant United Health, Stevens’ former employer. A lamentable and unheralded consultation on the measures ended over a week ago. How dare government ministers and Simon Stevens praise the service and its incredible staff while simultaneously undermining both.

Difficult for Mr Lewis – were he to be honest, thereby breaking the habit of a Tory lifetime, he would have to answer that question with “because the government of which I am part is so bloody incompetent.”
