Jenrick and Badenoch are vying to be Tory leader after Cleverly’s shock loss.
The former Foreign Secretary had been expected to get through to the final round – the vote by Tory Party members – after surging to the lead, but it seems the other two worked hard to suck up votes from supporters of Tom Tugendhat, who was knocked out yesterday (Tuesday, October 8, 2024).
Or maybe people remembered his hypocrisy in first suggesting that rich pensioners should forfeit winter fuel payments and then criticising the Labour government for the same idea, labelling it toxic?

No? Perhaps it was his penchant for making jokes about rohypnol, or (allegedly) labelling another MP’s constituency a “sh*thole” –
Actually, the possible reasons for him being dropped are endless.
Whatever actually triggered it, the final result put the far-right Badenoch in the lead on 42 votes, with Jenrick on 41 and Cleverly trailing on 37 – two fewer than he had yesterday.
The choice now goes to the wider party membership – although it would be fair to say that they haven’t been left with much from which to choose.
I mean, let’s face it – neither Jenrick nor Badenoch is a prize.
