The election is over, the result is in, and is Starmer celebrating because Kemi Badenoch is now Tory leader?

It seems the majority of Tories who voted decided to go for the bright and shiny thing. That’s certainly what Sam Coates of Sky News seemed to be saying:
But of course the number of Tories who voted was very low. Badenoch was supported by fewer than half of the Tory Party membership (it currently stands at around 130,000 and she had around 50,000 votes. Rival Robert Jenrick had around 41,000).
She doesn’t have the support of the majority of her party – and that might harm her, going forward.
It’s probably because she isn’t very diplomatic – and is extremely volatile, as Phil Moorhouse states in this spot-analysis:
And she only has the support of a minority of MPs.
Keir Starmer should be delighted. If he knows what’s good for him, he’ll have his team working out ways he can push her over the edge as often as possible.
Then he’ll be able to present the next general election choice as being between a stable, steady and (by then) proven leader (him) or an angry hysteric (her).
