The Labour government has announced that it intends to re-nationalise all the railway operating companies as their current contracts run out.
But it is not re-nationalising the rolling stock companies that own and lease out locomotives, freight wagons and coaches to train and freight operative companies.

So there is still an opportunity for private firms to make an absolute killing from the railways. Keir Starmer and whichever Transport Secretary we have today (Heidi Alexander, isn’t it?) haven’t bothered to mention that to us, and this means the Labour government is guilty of misleading the public.
One person who isn’t misleading us about it is Faiza Shaheen, who was unceremoniously dropped from seeking election as a Labour representative at the general election in July. It seems possible that her interest in telling people the facts might have conflicted with Labour’s apparent policy not to.

Perhaps someone from the Labour Party might deign to explain why they haven’t been straight with us about this?
