Benefit sanctions skyrocket as Universal Credit rollout continues

It is less than a week since This Writer asked, “Why are we being distracted from the sanction system that is killing benefit claimants?” Now we have our answer.

Sanctions are on the rise – spurred mostly by an increase among Universal Credit claimants.

And these figures don’t include sickness and disability benefit claimants. In my previous article I demonstrated a distressing correlation between the rise in sanctions against these citizens and a rise in the number of deaths among them.

The evidence against the minority Tory government and its evil sanctions practices is mounting.

The number of benefit sanctions imposed on job seekers has shot up by 50% in the space of six months.

The number of sanctions imposed on people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance or Universal Credit rose from 18,994 last July to 33,860 in December, before falling back to the 30,000 mark by March this year.

In the six months to March, the most recent month for which data is available, the number of sanctions had risen by 50%.

The true sanctions figures are actually likely to be higher, as the Universal Credit data excludes claimants in numerous parts of the country.

Politics.co.uk [who published the data] excluded sanctions imposed on claimants of disability benefit, as the most recent of these figures are often subsequently revised sharply downwards.

It’s hardly surprising sanctions are on the rise, like every other public worker, with the exception of MP’s and high level executives the DWP workers wages have effectively reduced in value due to austerity, being given the opportunity of a bonus for sanctioning claimants the are putting their own needs first.
