Huge loss for Johnson’s general election call as MPs don’t even bother to turn up
This must be humiliating for Conservatives across the UK.
After he lost his fight to stop MPs debating a Bill to stop his beloved plan for a “no deal” Brexit, Boris Johnson said he would call a general election.
But he needed two-thirds of MPs to support it under the terms of the Fixed Term Parliament Act. That’s 434 votes.
Want to know the worst of it?
434 MPs didn’t even turn up.
Only 298 MPs voted in favour of his election – the combined total of the remaining Conservatives he can effectively whip, together with the 10 DUP representatives.
As for the Opposition – 56.
They knew he wasn’t going to get the support he wanted so most of them decided they had something better to do.
I notice a new series of Taskmaster started on the Dave TV channel tonight.
Maybe they decided to watch that instead. It might make a nice change of pace to watch somebody winning.

So 56 Opposition MPs voted for an election?
No, they voted against it.
I don’t know much about politics but I hope this wasn’t a wasted opportunity..
Now they say JC’s running scared but I know he has his reasons so I say Good Luck Jeremy C..
So is this Boris Johnson the worse of
the worse?? after Thatcher, Cameron & May?? He’s made himself look like a clown, maybe he should wear a court jester outfit. . . . -)
Whilst most of the UK will appreciate the sudden and unexpected release of our dosh, from the hidden austerity”money tree”, for the benefit of so many short changed public services no one could honestly say they could not see this sudden investment as just pre election Con incentives. Hopefully Boorish will not claw it back again now his cunning plan E has also failed miserably. Should have stuck to clowning on the Not the Nine O’clock news show
