If you think the Tories aren’t abusing human rights over coronavirus care home deaths, read this

Dignity: Anne Duncan.

It didn’t take long to find evidence of possible Tory government human rights abuses in care homes.

Here’s the story of Anne Duncan, who faced dying “scared and alone” until her family intervened:

Lawyer Linda Duncan said: “If the Government is going to sacrifice the elderly, they should be transparent about it, and make sure care homes have enough staff qualified to provide dignity and care.”

Linda and son Anton had Anne Duncan, 91, moved from her care home in Edinburgh to the city’s Western General Hospital for her last two days, where the retired teacher was treated with dignity.

Linda and Anton pushed for the move when they learned Anne would not be given oxygen or hydrated.

Elderly Covid-19 patients [have been] dying in agony because their care home staff could not provide adequate end-of-life care.

A reminder: Human Rights law says the Government must protect the life of residents and staff in care homes, preventing avoidable deaths. They must also prevent inhuman, degrading treatment.

The Human Rights Act 1998 also imposes an obligation to allow a “good death”, meaning end-of-life care is fundamental.

I’m a fan of Vox in general but it is irresponsible and ignorant of the facts to suggests that people at the end of life require IV hydration or oxygen therapy, to have a peaceful or dignified death. I am an emergency room nurse but have worked extensively in palliative care. Recently I have seen an increased number of very worried family members insist that there loved one be moved to hospital as they are at the end of there life. wrongly believing oxygen would some how ease there suffering. it would not! I might add that IV hydration would also simply prolong the death and likely cause further suffering. There are plenty of sticks to beat the tories with today. Drivel like this just causes pain and distress.

And what did the Daily Mirror say when you brought it to that newspaper’s attention? Bear in mind that I was only repeating what the Mirror published in that regard.

It’s interesting and useful information but you should send it to the appropriate source as well.

The fascist tories will deny their serial state criminal accountability by blaming the NHS!! But ‘the buck stops with the government since the NHS has to act on government orders!

Appalling that Anne Duncan had to suffer such cruel and callous non-treatment – because the fascist tories want to rid themselves of all the ‘non-human elderly women and men!’ There needs to be group civil legal action against the fascist tory government because they are continuing to violate the Human Rights Laws but as usual money will win!

The fascist tories will use our money to hire expensive lawyers in order to claim ‘wah not our fault guv all your elderly relatives are dying – anyway we don’t care we have the political power and we aren’t going to relinquish it soon!’
