Carol Vorderman is using her celebrity status to good effect – but there’s a problem
Carol Vorderman: she wants tactical voting to end Tory rule and bring in Proportional Representation. But a government led by what party is likely to implement the change?
Former Countdown numbers expert Carol Vorderman has been using her enormous popularity on the social media to highlight ways in which we prevent the Tories from forming another government.
She appeared on TV show Sunday Brunch to explain how we could use tactical voting to keep the Tories out.
But, as Maximilien Robespierre points out in the video clip below, the UK needs to change its voting system away from the current First Past The Post model to a form of Proportional Representation in order to keep them out for good.
And there’s a problem with that, which we’ll come to, after you watch the clip:
The problem is that Ms Vorderman is keen to get Labour into office – but Keir Starmer’s right-wing Labour Party is no more keen to introduce PR than the Tories.
What the UK really needs is a government composed of a party or parties that support a change to PR – and she’s not pushing for that.
Without such a commitment, Ms Vorderman’s change will be no change at all.
