Hoodwinked: The UK and others cut funding to UNRWA but Israel gave no evidence of terror links between that relief organisation and Hamas.
An independent report has just exonerated the United Nations relief agency, which is the main channel of humanitarian support to Palestinians in Gaza and across the Middle East.
Here’s The Guardian:
The Colonna report, which was commissioned by the UN in the wake of Israeli allegations, found that Unrwa had regularly supplied Israel with lists of its employees for vetting, and that “the Israeli government has not informed Unrwa of any concerns relating to any Unrwa staff based on these staff lists since 2011”.
Allegations of the involvement of Unrwa staff in the 7 October Hamas attack on Israel led major donors in January to cut their funding to the agency, the main channel of humanitarian support not only to Palestinians in Gaza but to Palestinian refugee communities across the region.
In fact, the report by former French foreign minister Catherine Colonna has said Israel has yet to provide any supporting evidence of its claims that employees of the UNRWA are members of terrorist organisations.
This creates a dilemma for members of the UK’s government and main opposition parties, who took Israel’s claims at face value, cut funding for UNRWA at a time when it was vital that the aid got through, and now look like credulous fools:
A reminder that Sunak immediately suspended British support for UNRWA on the say-so of Israeli "intelligence".

Absolutely right. This is further evidence that neither Rishi Sunak nor Keir Starmer should be allowed to be prime minister. They will be pawns or catspaws of others – most notably Israel.
The announcement creates particular problems for Lisa Nandy, who takes donations from pro-Israel groups and was said to be the first to call for action based on Israel’s lie.
She has now had the bare-faced cheek to completely reverse her stance – but we see her:
At the time, @lisanandy could have listened to authoritative voices who rebutted Israel's smear campaign.
She failed to do so.
Now she asserts a moral high ground, basking in UNRWA's vindication by this independent report.
