Sky‘s Sophie Ridge asked Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt whether it was cost-effective to spend 234 times the amount of money it costs to educate a child for a year, just to send someone to a foreign country:

Notice that his answer was contingent on the Rwanda deportations deterring people from getting into boats operated by criminal gangs?
Well, on the BBC’s The World At One today (Thursday, May 2, 2024), This Writer heard a claim that more people arrived in the UK on boats in the last 24 hours that at any other time so far this year.
They don’t seem particularly deterred to me!
