Jeremy Corbyn is not impressed with Labour’s manifesto

He has read it – and Jeremy Corbyn is not impressed with Labour’s manifesto.

In particular, the former Labour leader has taken exception to Keir Starmer’s refusal to reverse the two-child limit on Child Benefit.

“Labour’s manifesto caps child benefit, but not bankers’ bonuses,” he said.

“That tells you everything you need to know about Labour’s priorities.”

He explained that, with more than four million children living in poverty in Britain today, it is “shameful” that the Labour Party hasn’t pledged to abolish the harmful two-child benefit cap.

Removing the cap wouldimmediately lift 250,000 children out of poverty overnight, including – of course – people in the constituency for which he is standing: Islington North.

“I’ve always been opposed to this cruel policy: in 2015, I called it ‘rotten and indefensible’ and voted against it. It was immoral then. It is immoral now,” he said.

“If I’m re-elected, I’ll be fighting to scrap the two-child limitin order to do that, I need … help todayWe still have thousands of doors to knock on in Islington North – and only 22 days until the election.”

If you are in Islington North, or are able to get there to help, feel free to join one of the many canvassing sessions Mr Corbyn and his team are running, starting at the following locations, at the following times:

Today:

41 Kelvin Road, Highbury, N5 2PR

11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 6.30pm

Saturday 15 June

Cafe Metro, 4 Junction Rd, Archway N19 5RQ

12pm, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm

Sunday 16 June

The Bedford Tavern, 160 Seven Sisters Road, N7 7PT

Then join the team at the pub to watch England’s first match of Euro 2024 at 8pm.

Mr Corbyn said: “Let’s build a society in which every child can develop their creative imagination; a society that invests in the future, a society built on hope, not despair.”
