Former Labour general secretary has endorsed Andrew Feinstein

A former Labour Party general secretary has endorsed Andrew Feinstein as the MP for Holborn & St Pancras – rather than Labour’s current leader, Keir Starmer.

Jennie Formby was general secretary of the Labour Party between 2018 and 2020, serving under Jeremy Corbyn and briefly under Starmer. She was only the second female gensec in the party’s history.

During her period in that role, the party’s membership hovered at around half a million members. It has lost a significant number of those people since Starmer took over, falling to around 366,000 in March 2024.

Ms Formby stated:  “I am happy to endorse Andrew Feinstein’s candidacy to be the MP for Holborn & St Pancras.

“This country needs people like Andrew in Parliament – somebody who wants to tackle the inter-related climate, housing and inequality crises that we face. There is no doubt he will fight for all of his constituents and advocate for the truly transformative and progressive policies we need to make this country fairer and greener.

“Andrew has a long track record standing up for Palestinian rights and against the horrors we see unfolding in Gaza. He has worked to expose and oppose the corruption in the global arms trade and the devastating consequences of unchecked militarism. I know he will work tirelessly to advocate for an immediate end to arms sales to Israel.”

Ms Formby has been critical of Starmer’s leadership of the Labour Party on X (formerly Twitter). Recently she has criticised the Party’s handling of issues of racism, slamming its treatment of Martin Forde KC.
