Britons are trapped in Lebanon and Starmer is ignorant about it. This is a recipe for disaster.
That country has become extremely dangerous since Hezbollah stepped in to support Hamas in the Gaza conflict, especially with Israel under a government that actively provokes escalation of conflict.
It was Israel’s insistence on turning the Gaza conflict into a genocide of Palestinians there that prompted Hezbollah to become involved – and now it seems Israel is determined to murder non-combatant Lebanese citizens as well as Gazans.

So the BBC is reporting that
At least 492 people have been killed in intense and wide-ranging Israeli air strikes targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Lebanon’s health ministry said 35 children and 58 women were among the dead, while 1,645 others had been wounded.
It did not report how many of the casualties were civilians or combatants.
Maybe it doesn’t know. Hezbollah is a part of the Lebanese Parliament, but not the government.
In any case, it seems unlikely that any children who were killed were combatants. The new casualties join the 14 people were killed and more than 450 wounded in attacks using pagers, walkie-talkies and other battery-operated devices last week.
And the latest wave of attacks has triggered a mass exodus from southern Lebanon as people try to get as far away from danger as possible.
The UK’s Labour government has urged Britons in Lebanon to leave the country altogether.
But this is proving unrealistic.
There are between 4,000 and 6,000 UK nationals in Lebanon and only three airlines operating from the country’s sole commercial airport – and most international flights have been cancelled.
Starmer should have anticipated this. The time to call for evacuation was last week, after it became clear that Israel was resorting to indiscriminate – terrorist – tactics.
Fortunately, it seems someone has had the foresight to prepare contingency plans for evacuation, with an extra 700 military personnel sent to the UK’s base on Cyprus, ready to carry out an emergency evacuation if required.
This seems increasingly likely.
But it could have been avoided if Starmer and his advisors had been a little more aware of what is going on. Perhaps he is blinded by his sympathy for the Israeli government.
