Here's Amnesty's evidence of genocide in Gaza - and can Israel really deny it?

Cowardly Keir Starmer won’t condemn Israel for firing on UN peacekeepers

Cowardly Keir Starmer won’t condemn Israel for firing on UN peacekeepers in a blatant breach of international law.

According to the BBC,

On Thursday, two UN peacekeepers from Indonesia were wounded falling from an observation tower in Naqoura after an Israeli tank fired towards it.

Two other peacekeepers were injured in a separate explosion.

The Israeli military tried to order the UN to pull back from the border last week – and Unifil (the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon) refused.

UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres said firing on peacekeepers was a “violation of international humanitarian law”.

“These peacekeepers must be protected,” he said.

Andrea Tenenti, a spokesman for Unifil, said recent attacks on UN bases look like “more of a deliberate attack against our troops, who have been in the south to try to bring back stability”.

The BBC’s headline said Downing Street was “appalled” at the attacks – but this was not confirmed in the actual story.

And it seems Keir Starmer has refused to condemn the IDF’s actions as a breach of international law:

Asked about the attacks, a Downing Street spokesperson said it was “vital that peacekeepers and civilians are protected” and reiterated calls for an immediate ceasefire.

“As you know we continue to call for an immediate ceasefire and an end to suffering and bloodshed. It is a reminder of the importance of us all renewing our diplomatic efforts to resolve this.”

Asked if the prime minister would agree with Ireland’s Taoiseach (Irish PM) that Israel had broken international law, the spokesperson says: “All parties must always do everything possible to protect civilians and comply with international law.”

What a coward Keir Starmer is!

It’s a clear breach – Israel has no right to tell UN peacekeepers to do anything at all. But Starmer seems to be deep in the pockets of the Israeli government and its lobbyists and probably doesn’t say anything about its conflicts unless his words have been vetted by an Israeli representative first.

Don’t you get that impression?

Meanwhile, Israel’s spokespeople have delivered a statement that one can only interpret as an attempt at comedy:

IDF Spokesman Lt Col Nadav Shoshani said the military was in an “ongoing conflict with Hezbollah whose terrorists and infrastructure are in close proximity to Unifil positions posing a significant risk to the safety of peacekeepers”.

“The IDF takes every precaution to minimize harm to civilians and peacekeepers alike,” he added.

How many Lebanese civilians have been killed by the Israelis, now? More than 1,000? Along with 42,000 Gazans? And more than 100,000 injured in Lebanon and Gaza?

And the IDF says it takes “every precaution to minimise harm”?

One would hesitate to imagine the death toll if this organisation just let itself go.
