Why is Israel attacking the organisation that created it?
The messages from Unifil – the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon – could not be clearer: members of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) are invading its land and trying to intimidate its members.

Only yesterday, This Writer read the following:
The intention seems clear: to force UN peacekeepers and observers out of the combat zone in Lebanon, allowing Israeli troops to commit further breaches of international law – war crimes, most likely – out of sight.
But it is also an extreme act of disrespect against the organisation that brought the modern state of Israel into being; it was created by United Nations resolution at the end of the 1940s.
This Writer is aware that Israeli zionists like to pretend that Israel has existed from Biblical times onwards, but this is not true; countries are built and crumble with the passage of time and movements of people, and it seems to have been a mistake to have given Jews their former homeland as a sanctuary and stronghold against any future attempt at genocide against them.
If they had been given another place, perhaps this intense right-wing nationalism would not have been kindled by their politicians.
But we have to deal with the world as it is – not as we would wish it to be. Israel is committing war crimes quite clearly and blatantly.
Where is the (international) backlash against it?
