Campaigners at 38 Degrees are begging the Labour government to act after an announcement that energy bills are set to rise again in January.
It is unreasonable that energy shareholders will revel in increased profits while pensioners who have lost their Winter Fuel Payments (among others) freeze – possibly to death.

“The country is freezing after the first snow of winter and Storm Bert, but it’s just been announced that energy bills will rise AGAIN in January,” write the 38 Degrees team.
“Charities have warned expensive heating might even cost people their lives as they’re forced to lower their thermostats.
“This can’t go on. Together, we’ve been putting massive pressure on the Government after they scrapped winter fuel payments for millions, pushing 50,000 pensioners into poverty, but with temperatures dropping and bills going up, we must keep up the fight.
“Ministers have the power to help, by prioritising ordinary people like us, not energy companies’ vast billion-pound profits, and doing more to ensure no one falls through the cracks this winter. But we need to force them to act. So if enough of us come together right now against this new bills hike, they’ll be sure to hear us loud and clear.
“Will you sign the petition to demand the Government takes action NOW on expensive energy bills? And ensures no-one loses their life for the sake of the cost on their meter? It only takes a few seconds to sign.”
