Who expected to see Tony Greenstein, a Jewish pro-Palestine campaigner and journalist charged with a Terror offence?
The anti-genocide activist was charged under s.12 of the Terrorism Act 2000 – expressing support for a proscribed organisation.
Funny, that – hasn’t Keir Starmer claimed that “journalism is the lifeblood of democracy” and that his government will “fight any threats to those who hold the powerful to account”?
Apparently that doesn’t extend to the Crown Prosecution Service or his own government.

Mr Greenstein joins an illustrious list of great and good writers including Richard Medhurst, Sarah Wilkinson, Professor Haim Bresheeth, Asa Winstanley, Craig Murray and others whose harassment by the UK’s authorities has gone widely unreported – as opposed to the widespread reporting of a police call at the door of right-wing hack Allison Pearson.
And if misbehaviour like this goes unreported in the mainstream media, it’s considered not to have happened and the public get the impression that right-wing supporters of genocidal Israel are the only people being targeted. So Israel and its supporters get to look like the underdogs again.
And isn’t Starmer himself a supporter of Israel?
So much for fighting “any threats to those who hold the powerful to account”!
Starmer’s police, press and government are all apparently doing the exact opposite – making every effort they can to fight any threats to the powerful.
