Watch this clip in which a spokesperson for a think tank calls for a wealth tax to reverse have/have-not polarisation.
Harry Quilter-Pinner of the progressive Institute for Public Policy Research is echoing Gary Stevenson’s call, as mentioned many times on This Site.
Gary has said that it will be hard work to persuade UK national leaders that the only way to prevent economic disaster in the UK is to re-balance the economy by increasing the number of asset owners; at the moment, due to neoliberal political stupidity, the number of people who own assets (like their own home) is diminishing fast, and this is widening the gap between people who have wealth and those who never will.
Watch:
More people – who are influencers – are coming around to the it-shouldn’t-be-revolutionary idea that the people who have more should contribute more.
It doesn’t mean there isn’t still a mountain to climb; it means those of us with a conscience need to amplify what people like Harry are saying.
