Are people really staying away from the sales to shop online rather than in the high street? That doesn’t ring true to This Writer.
The BBC is reporting a 6.2 per cent drop in high street footfall on Boxing Day, compared with the same day last year, and a 4.2 per cent fall in shopping centre visitors.

Look at the comment from Barclays at the bottom of the article, stating that
Brits will spend a combined total of £4.6bn on Boxing Day, compared with £4.7bn spent in 2023.
That’s £100 million less than last year.
The money has to go somewhere and I’m willing to bet it has gone into the pockets of water, gas and electricity shareholders, landlords/mortgages, supermarkets and on a few pre-Christmas presents – into the hands of the people who now hold all the once-national assets that successive governments have privatised.
It won’t circulate through the economy again but will stay in those very full bank accounts.
Meanwhile, physical shops can’t stay open because of the high costs involved – including energy prices. That’s in the article.
So the economy that keeps these fat cats fat is in jeopardy.
But nobody cares because media twerps like the reporters behind this BBC article simply direct your attention away. Wake up!
