Covid-19: leave your Ibuprofen in the medicine cabinet, France warns
Anti-inflammatory pills like Ibuprofen may make the coronavirus worse, according to French authorities.
It seems that old herbal remedies may turn out to be a much better choice after this revelation:
The country’s health minister, Olivier Véran, who is a qualified doctor and neurologist, tweeted on Saturday: “The taking of anti-inflammatories [ibuprofen, cortisone … ] could be a factor in aggravating the infection. In case of fever, take paracetamol. If you are already taking anti-inflammatory drugs, ask your doctor’s advice.”
Health officials point out that anti-inflammatory drugs are known to be a risk for those with infectious illnesses because they tend to diminish the response of the body’s immune system.
The health ministry added that patients should choose paracetamol … because “it will reduce the fever without counterattacking the inflammation”.

It is a major issue with COPD sufferers who need to take Anti-inflammatory Prednisolone Steroids with their Antibiotics when regular chest infections occur.
You are left exposed and forced to “self-isolate” for 2 weeks normally, so this current situation makes it much more dangerous but no specific advice from NHS or Government is available.
“It seems that old herbal remedies may turn out to be a much better choice”
Indeed. The best advice as far as I’m concerned is to assume you’l get the coronavirus, so in the meantime do everything you can to boost your immune system. The distancing, the self-isolation, handwashing, all only go so far, given how inter-connected we are, whether we like it or not.
Even those of us that are healthy have compromised immune systems, merely through all the pollutants in the car and aircraft fumes we breathe in every day. And from all the crap they put in the processed foods that too many of us eat.
So using your diet you can do yourself a big favour by, to use military metaphors, sending reinforcements to your immune system.
It goes without saying that eating fresh produce, fruit, nuts, veg, leafy greens makes sense anyway, and is going to help even in times of no pandemic.
Chris Martenson over at Peak Prosperity at the beginning of the outbreak recommended:
elderberry syrup (I’m doing 2 teaspoons after each meal. Yeah, it’ effing expensive until we can make our own again in the autumn, but what price your health?)
green tea (I just have one mug a day)
brazil nuts (to boost selenium levels, one a day is sufficent)
Vitamin D (either through sunlight or supplements)
I personally have a dessert spoon of honey on my cereal in the morning, with a scattering of ginger powder and turmeric powder. Yeah, I go through a jar of honey in a week. None-dairy milk of course. I eat fruit after each meal, even if it’s only a small apple (those mini-apples they sell for kids’ lunchboxes are great for that).
Have been doing this for some years now, and even though I get colds just like everyone else, they don’t get in the way particularly and I can work as normal. As additional reinforceents I’ve added the items above.
For all the panic buying empty shelves, I went to my local veg shop on Friday and it was overflowing with fresh fruit and vegetables. {Support your local businesses, it keeps the money in the economy too, rather than sending the profits into off-shore tax-havens!}
