Independents are gaining massively in local elections but news media are saying nothing. Why?
At the time of writing, 38 of 107 councils taking part have declared their results, and Keir Starmer’s Labour has made the most gains – 58 seats. This is not as many as that party expected to win.
The reason – that has gone unreported by the mainstream news media so far – is that Independent candidates have surged forward in many areas. The number of seats they have has surged by 39 so far, although this only brings their total to 65.

It’s still more than the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party combined.
And the big losers are the Conservatives, who have lost more seats than they have kept (so far – 132 seats down with only 122 kept).
This strikes me as typical of the mainstream media attitude to politics: they ignore the real developments in order to fabricate some fairy tales that make the Establishment parties look better than they are – in order to maintain the status quo.
This Writer will check the social media. Hopefully the Indy winners will have a lot to say there, and we can redress the balance.
