Nish Kumar has called for a public inquiry into DWP deaths
Nish Kumar has called for a public inquiry into DWP deaths – nine years after Vox Political put deaths connected with benefit sanctions on the front pages of the UK’s national newspapers.
Nish is a stand-up comic who came to public attention as the host of The Mash Report, on which his social conscience was readily-apparent to viewers.
Now he has hosted an episode of the podcast Pod Save The UK discussing Disability News Service reporter John Pring’s book The Department, about the way the Department for Work and Pensions under successive Conservative governments twisted the assessment process for sick and disabled claimants in a way that deprived them of their benefits and subsequently starved them to death.
Mr Pring appeared on the podcast and explained what has happened at the DWP – and it makes horrifying listening, if you aren’t already familiar with the horror show that the DWP has been for the last 14 years.
Obviously, long-term readers of This Site will be aware of the worst of what happened over that time – but the podcast makes excellent listening/viewing. Here it is:
Nish called for a public inquiry into the DWP deaths. This Writer’s knee-jerk reaction was: “Good luck with that! Some of us have been seeking action for more than a decade.”
But this might be the right time. We have a new, Labour government, some of whose members are (still) relatively sympathetic to this issue, or have been in the past.
Perhaps its time they stood up and took action, now they are in a position to do so, at long last.

Kudos to Nish!! Let’s hope the MSM pick up on this and offer him interviews on the telly. I don’t hold too much hope of it happening, mind.
hold on we been hear before the DWP the MPs parliament knows but nothing is done I’d be very saprised if anything comes of it oh noises will be made but we now that the DWP will say once again we doing everything in our power and will learn by their mistakes.
