Petition the government to stop people falling through cracks in the benefit system

Petition the government to stop people falling through cracks in the benefit system, as suggested by Beastrabban on his Weblog.

The Beast says he has signed because “Starmer isn’t doing nearly enough to revive and strengthen the welfare state.

“I’m not even sure he intends to, but just wants to follow Blairite and Tory policy of destroying it while declaring that it’s necessary to get idle Britain working again.”

Here’s the text of the petition:

Energy bills are up again and winter is fast approaching, but so far the Government has done little to help people struggling to get by – including cutting support for pensioners. [1] Ministers have had almost 100 days in power to prove who they’re serving: now it’s time we demand MUCH more from them.

How? The Government’s upcoming Autumn Budget is a big moment for them to prove who their ‘government of service’ is actually serving this winter – and that they’re working hard to stop people falling through the cracks, whilst ensuring the ultra-rich pay their fair share. [2]

Simply put: the Budget is their first big moment to show they understand the challenges facing us all. So ahead of the Budget, now is the perfect time for us to come together and raise our voices to demand they give us bold plans that help everyday people!

Will you sign the open letter to Keir Starmer now – demanding the Government takes action so people don’t fall through the cracks? When it reaches 100,000 signatures, we’ll share it with journalists and ramp up the pressure!

I’LL SIGN

I’M NOT SIGNING BECAUSE

Whether it’s new taxes on the ultra rich, scrapping winter fuel payment cuts for hard up pensioners or a social energy tariff to help people struggling with bills – or all of the above – the Government must use this Budget to demonstrate who, and what, their priorities are. [3]

The 38 Degrees community has been fighting for more action at every turn – and we’ve made quite the splash: getting our huge Winter Fuel Allowance petition discussed in Parliament, projecting our message to tax the ultra-rich at Labour Party Conference, and carrying out public opinion research. But now we need to take it to the next level. [4]

So will you sign the open letter to Keir Starmer and help force the Government to announce bold plans that provide some hope for the future? It’ll just take 30 seconds and when enough of us come together our message is unmissable.

I’LL SIGN

I’M NOT SIGNING BECAUSE
