At the time of writing, we have 24 days left until the big one, so if you’re stuck for gift ideas why not let shop bosses reveal their Christmas 2024 trends?
The following are what bosses of major UK-based chains believe will dominate their sales in the run-up to the festive holidays.
Electrical
The arrival of AI will drive upgrades, with Microsoft, Apple, Google, Samsung and other generative AI tools arriving on new devices.
And retro goods are also set to perform well, like Polaroid cameras and traditional record players.
Kitchen appliances remain strong sellers, including coffee machines and air fryers.
Fashion
M&S reckons it has its most stylish seasonal clothing offer yet, including sequin tops, mini skirts and capes. How do you think This Writer will look? Perhaps they’re not for everyone…

At Asos, it seems burgundy clothing is “incredibly strong” and 80s designs and embellishment will be big. In menswear, the “preppy, varsity look” is apparently going to be very strong – sporty layers, heritage emblems and a dash of nostalgia.
It looks something like this…
… and is therefore fine with me.
At Matalan, it seems customers have been loving novelty products like traditional winter knits, bold festive family PJs, or quirky, colourful decorations.
Sales at sports retailers over the Christmas period will continue to be driven by 2024’s hottest trend, the Adidas Samba.
Beauty
Superdrug reckons healthcare-related electrical goods will fare well – particularly its water flosser, which sold out last year.
Toys
More customers are buying toys early – in part, it’s believed, to spread the cost. Movie-related toys are expected to do well, with the release of Sonic the Hedgehog, Moana and Paddington sequels.
“Heritage” licensed toys such as Hot Wheels, Star Wars, Transformers, Spider-Man/Marvel, Littlest Pet Shop, Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol are also set to do well.
Experiences
Consumers are likely to want “experiences” like tickets to concerts or the theatre, supper clubs, or even Fortnum & Mason’s masterclass in food and drink.
Overall
Customers are expected to shy away from “big ticket” items, with retailers expecting them to wait for deals.
