Professor Steve Keen, the economist who predicted the financial collapse, seeks funds to publish graphic novels about finance and economics, writes Christopher Menon in Every Investor:

Professor Steve Keen, Head of the School of Economics, Politics and History at Kingston University, London — author of the bestselling, ‘Debunking Economics’ — has launched a Kickstarter project to raise money to produce a series of graphic novels intended to bring a deeper understanding of how money works to a mainstream audience.

Professor Keen is acting as mentor and muse to the ‘Crash, Boom, Pop!’ team behind the idea, who include comic creators Miguel Guerra and Suzy Dias, and writer Genevieve Tran.

Their goal is to raise $35,000 (£19,108) and they are already half way there. To learn more, watch this video:

Prof Keen explained that the talented team aim to get an airing for alternative views on economics: “The fundamental cause of the economic and financial crisis that began in late 2007 was lending by the finance sector that primarily financed speculation rather than investment. The private debt bubble this caused is unprecedented, probably in human history and certainly in the last century. Its unwinding now is the primary cause of the sustained slump in economic growth.

Vox Political supports the use of comics as an educational tool. The juxtaposition of words with explanatory images is an obvious, effective device for learning and it is a sign of snobbery and unimaginative thinking that this use of comics has been sidelined for so long – presumably by academics who still think they’re “kid’s stuff”.
