‘Christmas has been cancelled’ as Tory cuts force councils to pull plug on festive street decorations

Last Updated: November 22, 2015By

This Writer is none too keen on the idea of ‘crowdfunding’ Christmas lights – isn’t that what the Tories want? Individuals paying – and paying more – for a service that was previous provided more cheaply with public money?

Either way, aren’t the Tories a gang of Grinches?

Christmas lights have become the latest victims of strict budget cuts imposed by Tory ministers .Cash strapped councils have been forced to pull the plug on festive street lights and Christmas trees across the country.

Other displays have been dramatically scaled back in size because of the spending cuts.

Birmingham’s £50,000 Christmas parade was scrapped this year after the city council slashed its budget by £105m because of government austerity measures.

Dozens of towns and villages are fighting back against the festive blackout by “crowdfunding” popular displays themselves.

      Good for Canterbury.
Not all councils are going to be affected – perhaps Canterbury has a wealthy population and therefore a higher council tax take; perhaps it already crowdfunds. It’ll certainly be the poorer councils that face difficulties this year.

The Tories don’t want to be part of society as a whole, but they don’t mind taking advantage of attractions, just as long as they don’t have to contribute. They are the sort of people Dickens had in mind when he created Scrooge.

Tories don’t believe in society, Thatcher sure as hell didn’t, they don’t want anyone in the country to be happy, want us all poor, miserable, homeless, dead, that is their masterplan, they want everything for themselves and us to have nothing, happy christmas everyone!
