Canada link to international abortion fund is good – but US should be shamed

Marie-Claude Bibeau, center, Canada’s international development minister, spoke with her Dutch counterpart about the international abortion fund, a spokesman said [Image: Sean Kilpatrick/AP].

The Canadian administration should be praised for getting involved in this bid to derail Donald Trump’s attempt to bring reproductive rights in the developing world back to the Dark Ages.

This Writer can’t help but feel that Herr Drumpf was trying to do what the Conservative government in the UK has been doing for years – halting funding for causes in the hope that others will step in; in effect, trying to create private, rather than public, debt.

In the UK, the Tories have been allowed to get away with it because our national news media are mostly supine right-wing poodles.

But Drumpf has acted out his prejudice on the international stage.

Let us hope he receives the drubbing he so richly deserves for this high- (if small-) handed attempt at sexual-political tyranny.

Canada is considering contributing to a Dutch-led international fund to support abortion services in developing countries, set up in response to Donald Trump’s order to halt financing of NGOs that support the practice.

A spokesman for Canada’s international development minister, Marie-Claude Bibeau, told AFP the minister had spoken with her Dutch counterpart about the fund, and was considering donating an unspecified sum to it or a similar measure that would support “sexual reproductive rights, including abortion” abroad.

Is drumpf going to pay for all the children born (I hate this word, in this context) unnecessarily? I think not, every woman has the right to do whatever she likes to her body, in her own best interest, there will be a lot more butchery with women trying to get an abortion on the cheap.

As a woman, I am all for women’s reproductive rights. We have a good choice of ways to prevent pregnancies. However, abortion is not a contraception and should not be viewed as such.
