Tony Blair should be drummed out of Labour after urging voters to support other parties

Labour’s rules on this are very clear: Anyone calling for voters to support another party – for any reason at all – is in breach of their membership conditions.

Tony Blair, as a high-profile Labour member, is deliberately trying to harm his own party’s electoral prospects. Jeremy Corbyn’s response is too lenient.

It’s an open-and-shut case; Mr Blair should be expelled at once.

Oh, and let’s be clear, I agree completely with Eoin on this:

That doesn’t alter the fact that all political parties have rules, and it shouldn’t matter how big, famous or popular any member is – everybody must be treated the same way. Blair must go.

Jeremy Corbyn hit back at Tony Blair after the former Labour prime minister advised voters to consider backing Conservative or Liberal Democrat candidates in June’s general election, if they promise to have an open mind about the terms of the final Brexit deal.

As Labour embarks on a tough election campaign, Blair urged the public to set party allegiance aside, in order to avoid the 8 June poll becoming a “steamroller election”, and maximise the number of MPs willing to vote against a “hard Brexit” when Theresa May brings the deal back to the House of Commons.

A spokesman for Corbyn said: “On 9 June, we will either have a Labour government or a Tory one. If you want Brexit to be used to turn Britain into a low-wage tax haven, vote Tory. If you want a Britain for the many not the few after Brexit, vote Labour. The choice is clear.”

Tactical voting and a bland coalition are a vastly preferably to May with a huge majority but I would still through Blair out of the party.

We need to find the rock from under which he crawled and put him firmly back underneath it! When will this man get the message? He’s not the leader; he’s not even an M.P. Why won’t he just go away? Claiming to know (like so many others) what we voted for! People voted for myriad reasons but they voted and they didn’t vote for him!

Frankly I think any sensible person can see through Blair and that there is no difference between his treachery of that of the Tories. We need Corbyn more than ever if we are to avoid another Blair fiasco with more likelihood of wars and very little done to help those who really need help, like the old, infirm, and those needing social assistance.

Blair is a fifth-columnist and we know what happened to such during the war.

I just signed the petition, “Iain McNicol / Labour NEC: Suspend Tony Blair from the Labour Party immediately.” I think this is important. Will you sign it too?

I think it is a mark of distinction for the UK
(real) Labour supporters that while recognising the improvements under the last labour govt they also put the deaths and suffering of the people of the ME above that. Gordon Brown was hugely instrumental in the social justice projects for the people of the UK, not Blair in the main.

But Labour supporters cannot be “pleased” about eg Sure start here while mother’s and babies are dying for want of basic security in countries that the UK, under Blair, bombed into never ending horror. The anger and disappointment is directed at the quasi presidential Blair, not Brown and others.

We are told Corbyn “isn’t a leader” when the role model offered would seem to be a duplicitous war monger (not limited to Blair BTW). Corbyn is THE leader, one of the best if you want social justice in the UK and peace in the unsafe world that is the legacy of the neoliberals.

I’m not a great fan of Tony Blair, or at least of his latter years as PM, but I don’t believe he actually said to vote for other parties. He was asking people to be aware of their candidates’ views on a hard Brexit. The hint may well have been there but nobody can be suspended or drummed out of a party for insinuation, however much we would like to see it.

I think our regular friendly newsreporter Jonathan Pie adequately summed up globalist Tony Blair in one of his recent reports as the “floater that just will not flush away”…..perfect description for this floater voter.
